The Rookery

Chris Helme’s second solo album was mostly recorded in The Rookery, a large house in the Yorkshire Dales. Strings were recorded afterwards in London at Kensal Green Cemetery.
“While the album is dominated by intricate guitar play, there’s abundant colour provided by distorted mellotron [and] melting strings”
“[Chris Helme’s The Rookery] Enhanced by lavishly layered productions and a deftly deployed string quartet.”
“The Success of the Middle Eastern Strings on the ethereal (and title affirming) closer Good to be in Love prove that …thinking [even] bigger next time would be a good thing”
“The beautiful use of strings, mellotrons and blues and folk influences permeate an album that is a perfect record to listen to as summer evenings turn to night…”
